Cumann cultura was formed in June 1980. The founder members and officers elected were Rev John Irwin:  adm, President: Sean Stokes, Chairperson; Tim Lane, NT, vice-chairperson: Mrs Nita O’Connell, Secretary: Miss Ann Hogan, Assistant secretary: Mrs Josie Hogan, Treasurer and Mrs Patricia O’Shea pro.

The aim of the society was to promote Irish culture in U18’s in the parish. This was achieved by entering Scór competitions and organising Irish and polca dancing classes in the community centre.

On St James day, July 23rd, a Pattern day was held. A fancy dress parade was held and a number of children took part.

The year of the disabled was celebrated by running a bazaar and the proceeds£400 was presented to Mary Scanlon, matron of Foynes children’s hospital. Present were Ann Hogan, Patricia O’ Shea, Josie Hogan, Seán Stokes, Nita O’ Connell and Mary Lane.
